Christmas Craft & Gift Fair 2021
After a necessary hiatus of events due to Covid, how wonderful to be able to celebrate the festive season of 2021 by holding the annual Christmas Craft Fair. Many thanks to everyone who had a stall, everyone who came along and all the organisers who made the day run so smoothly. The event raised £850 for Hall funds. See our News page for the full report.
Christmas Fayre November 2019
As you can see, our Christmas Elves have been up to their usual mischief at the annual Christmas Fayre, dispensing mulled wine as well as lots of laughter and jolly quips! The Fayre was a successful event with a wide variety of amazing stalls and plenty of visitors. Many thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this event a great pre-cursor to the Christmas festivities and to all the crafters who supported us by bringing along their marvellous wares. The full report will be published on our News page but enjoy the photographs and our slide show here, which will give you a real flavour of the day. Keep an eye on our What's On page for more activities and events to come!
Quiz Night Success!
The Quiz Night that was held in the Village Hall on Saturday evening, 12th October, turned out to be a great success. Feedback was very positive and everyone who was there seemed to have a really good time. We had 12 tables booked and 45 people took part. The Bar was open from 7.00pm and there were two Sessions, each consisting of three rounds of ten questions, with a half hour break after the first Session. Hot snacks were served during the break and the Bar was busy once more for the replenishment of glasses.- it’s thirsty work having to tax those brain cells! The evening finished at around 10pm. Our table shows you the scores on the night and may we say well done to the winners 'Bothered & Bewildered!'!
A special thanks from me to those who helped with the running on the night – a great Team effort and one to be repeated…but not too soon! All the profits from the evening, £172.98, has been donated to the Woodfields School in Sheringham.

Grand Summer Fayre September 2019
A delightful, late summer afternoon, the crowds are gathered (earlier than ever) behind the fluttering red and white barrier tape, the sleek figure of Father Stephen steps forward to welcome the impatient throng, he declares the event open, hurriedly steps away and…..they’re off! First stop bric-a-brac for some cheeky bargaining, a quick flutter on the raffle (please, not the hip flask again!), a plant for an aunt, two dips on the Tombola with an eye once again on that bottle of scotch (plus a forlorn go on the putting whilst waiting in line), a meander through the eclectic collection of old implements (tools and electrical equipment, not the stallholders) and into the Hall for tea and cake to eat outside whilst listening to music from the 60s courtesy of Chris and Giselle – PERFECT! A splendid afternoon and a very big thank you to all those involved!

Christmas Day Drinks 2018
On 25th December 2018, the High Kelling Village Hall Bar opened its doors to welcome villagers and guests into the Hall for two hours of Christmas drinks for the second year in succession. Last year (2017) was the first year we did this and it was a great success, with around fifty people turning up, both residents and friends/relatives swelling the numbers. So this year we thought that was a one day wonder and were unsure what sort of a response to expect. In the event, the attendance exceeded all expectations with over 70 people coming through the doors, making it a huge success and cementing the occasion as an annual fixture to put in your diaries for the end of the year with certainty!
There were complimentary mince pies, courtesy of one talented resident. Mulled wine, sherry and the usual selection of wines, beers, ciders and soft drinks were available and the bar volunteers were kept busy for the full session.
Once again and for the one and only time of the year, we had to ring the bell for “last orders, please” and at 1.00pm after two hours’ good time and fun, we closed up shop and everyone went home for Christmas.
It’s a long way off, but make a note in your diaries for the end of the year – 25th December 2019, 11.00am to 1.00pm, High Kelling Village Hall, Christmas Drinks. We’ll be there!

In Celebration of Geof Knights & 50 Years of the Village Hall - August 2018
A special event was held on 11th August to celebrate the life of Geof Knights and his contribution to village life. Geof was known as 'Mr. High Kelling' and led the group of villagers who designed and built the Village Hall 50 years ago. Geof also founded the High Kelling Society and much loved High Kelling News. What amazing achievements! The Village Hall building has enabled successive groups of villagers and local supporters to create a lively and friendly community in this village. Geof's widow, Evelyn, and sons Steven and Phillip joined members of the the Village Hall Committee, High Kelling Society and High Kelling Social Club, Father Howard, other club representatives and villagers to mark the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and photograph.
See the remainder of the photographs in our slideshow below! Many thanks to Ray Morgan for his photo's.
Alice Boon's Presentation - Coffee Morning May 2018
"May's Coffee Morning was the best attended in my memory", said David Carter with a big smile as he reported on the morning's presentation to Alice Boon. After 27 years service on the Hall Management Committee, Alice's service and dedication was officially recognised as she magically "won" the first raffle prize! This was a special commission from the Patchwork Group, a cushion beautifully decorated with an image of the Village Hall and her name. Alice then unveiled a photograph of herself placed next to the photo of HM Queen. Coffee Morning is always a delight but seeing Alice's surprise and enjoyment was the icing on the cake! Happily Alice's son and daughter-in-law were there to witness the event. Alice has also been made an Honorary Life Member of the Management Committee.

Christmas Day Drinks - December 2017
Village Hall Bar Opening on Christmas Day
Not having had a December Pub Night due to the impact of Christmas on booking dates, we decided to open up for a couple of hours on Christmas Morning. A bit of a shot in the dark really, but we thought that for people who were maybe on their own over Christmas, or people with visitors or anyone who fancied a quick drink with neighbours, it would be nice to open up the bar. We opened at 11.00 am; people started drifting in and by 12.00 no-one had left and there were over 50 people in the Hall! We served the usual wine, beers and soft drinks plus some mulled wine. There were some donated home made mince pies which went down a treat and the whole place was "buzzing"! We called time at 12.50 (first time we have ever had to do that!) and closed at 1.00 pm. It turned out to be a real success and is something which we will no doubt repeat! With thanks to all who helped to make it a success. |
Christmas Craft & Gift Fayre - November 2017
Another successful event for our Village Hall. The Hall looked really colourful and festive as the stall holders displayed their skills with an array of crafts that they had made or help create.
With cheerful Christmas music playing, visitors could enjoy warm mulled wine and beer or a good old cuppa with a delicious slice of home-made cake. The atmosphere was terrific, lovely jolly stallholders, lots of smiles and good cheer in abundance. £570 was raised, after expenses, for our lovely Village Hall. THANK YOU to everyone who came along. If you missed it this year then make a date for 2018. Watch out on the website for dates! |
Grand Summer Fair - September 2017
The weather was glorious, the volunteers amazing, the crowds appreciative and an astounding £1957.32 was raised (at the time of this article being written).
With the sale of a number of additional items that were donated, the final total is expected to go over £2000! A massive amount which will go towards the general upkeep of our lovely village hall. Thanks to everyone involved and here's to the next one! |
Anne Spencer Plaque - May 2017
It was with great pleasure that Ann Aldborough, one of the Trustees of High Kelling Village Hall Management Committee, unveiled a plaque to commemorate the generous donation of Anne Spencer.
The donation enabled the Committee to complete refurbish the Kitchen, re-roof the main flat roof of the Hall and continue with other works.
The plaque was unveiled after the Committee's AGM on Friday 12th May and can be found in the Foyer.

Fashion Show March 2017
102 ladies came along to High Kelling’s first Fashion Show, which was held on Saturday 18th March at the Village Hall. A lively show was conducted by Ged, the compere from the ‘Colours’ fashion show company that kindly came all the way from Manchester to bring us a wide range of Spring clothing at 50% or less off High Street prices. No other companies would travel out to North Norfolk without the promise of far larger audiences than we could cater for, so we were indeed pleased to welcome them!
Models Uta and Fay modelled along our catwalk, a great opportunity to use the staging that was acquired through the hard work of the High Kelling Society in obtaining funding. They interacted and laughed with the ladies and showed off the latest designs with great flare! There were lots of chuckles at the leather shorts and many of us wondered if we dared to buy them!
The hub-bub of ladies browsing the rails, trying on and buying clothes at the end of the show; along with a steady stream of tasty refreshments, hot drinks and wine, contributed to a happy atmosphere.
Many thanks go to everyone who helped to bring the evening together and who gave up their time for duties in the car park, on the raffle or in the kitchen. We raised £730, with £33 for the East Africa Crisis Appeal.
We look forward to being able to bring this event back to our stage in the future!
